The front lower control arm on a CD9A/CE9A picks up in two places inboard, and this is the forward one: the pivot the arm actually swings on as the suspension cycles. Three decades of heat cycles turn that original rubber soft, and the arm starts floating in its mount instead of rotating about a fixed center — the symptoms are steering that feels vague just off straight-ahead, a wheel that walks under cornering load, and an alignment that never stays where the shop set it. Polyurethane in this position pins the pivot down so the arm travels the arc the geometry was drawn around.
