The toe arm is the short link that decides which way the rear wheel is pointing, and its inner bushing is the weak point in that job. Once the rubber has aged, the arm can shift under cornering and braking loads, so the rear wheels steer themselves a little without being asked and the car feels nervous on turn-in and unsettled over mid-corner bumps. It is also the reason a rear alignment on a high-mileage car never seems to hold.
